Idiosyncratic Theatres Barriloche
Well, barely qualifying for 'theatre' status only by the fact that the gymnasium has a sort of stage at one end, we are accutely aware that we are not market leaders in this city, yet
Another travelling company that visits, plays ten days compared to our one. The audiences are tough as I guess they are used to more sime slapstick humour with more references to the Castellano language, but the scenery as usual gets a few oohs and aaah's.
We trek to the far end of the gym up into the nosebleed seating section (so called because of the altitude) for ab impromptu actors meeting and the set looks great from a distance. It's a shame we are here for jst one day of shows

•Careful, if you are Canadian or from New Zealand you may get homesickness, it is very beautiful

This user friendly theatre (read, you can back the truck to the door) though small is one of the most homely and comfortable. Great heating which is a plus so close to the Antarctic. And it has a thriving drama class run by Tammy
There are two other theatres in town: association ETISAC (escuela de Teatro itinerante de Santa cruz)
And the municipal theatre
Things of note in Rio Gallegos:
•The town's plaza has more trees in it than i've ever seen
•The river for some reason doesnt look that picturesque and its kinda wierd not seeing any boats or birds on it

• A roasted chicken will cost you around 53 pesos Argentine (that's alot!)
•Has some of the best looking mongrel street dogs i've seen, and they hosted us as we explored the township (a pack of 4 dogs joined us)
Theatres
Anybody that's spent a bit of time in & around theatres knows that they are all idiosyncratic in their own special way.
Theatre Hispanica in Comodoro Rivadavia ..... Is a very nice theatre with new carpet & seating throughout around 660cap including the shooting booths as I like to call them, after John Wilkes Booth the World Bank Funded CiA assasin who shot Abe Lincoln.

In fact the expression 'if these walls could speak' relates probaly more to the theatre than any other place ( even brothels I suspect) and the personalities you find looking after these places are often classic stereotypes, stranger than the Performers that come and go and just as strange as a room filled with strangers sitting in the dark.... The JK Rowlins, Hogwarts caretaker 'Filch' springs to mind straight away and today's no different as we are greeted at 6am by a 'foot higher than a hobbit' chain non-smoking (its never lit), Argentinian custodian with a penchant for the Mahogany coloured parque flooring.
It's perhaps because of the weight of the coffin (contains lights, cables, swords, pirates flag etc) and malacàtes (like light stands but big & heavy) that we have to manhandel them under her noticeably smoke-free supervision around the auditorium periphery to their place on carpet overcuts front of stage. I suspect it's the weight that's bad for the floor because it's evident that herds of heel wearing women that have migrated over the floors for years leaving their mark aren't an issue....OK enough about the dumb floors
Touring is tough so you really learn to appreciate the little things like a couch in the green room or a kitchenette for cups of tea ( no guarentee of a cup though) or maybe a well placed structure for hanging my hammock.
Today's theatre is no different and in less than an hour we have bumped in with lights, sound & scenery and have a good half hour before the 7:45 sound check, well our road manager negleted to inform us or rather misinformed us that our 8:30 show was actually at 9am......Well we are all made up for Pirates Island now and the kids are in so I gotta go

Things of note in Comodoro Rivadavia....
•The people there are unusually tall for argentinians.
•Be careful of the incoming tide, you could get trapped on the beach!
•A nice bottle of 1999 Fin Del Mundo Pinot Noit from Patagonian Vineyards is only 60 pesos Argentine
•Hotel Del Mar, has wifi, clean simple rooms and pleasant staff, room 1# has two cojoined rooms and two T.V's
•The bar two blocks away has free pool and board games
• There are a few final year students that came to Romeo & Juliet that seem destined to be stupid for awhile longer....
Bell, Buenos Aires (Campana)
Amazing crowds! the kids knew almost all the songs, the teachers there are on to it. Googs was very ill, I hope we didn't catch it! Long hard day, the office chicks have got it eeeeeasy! next time we should take a bidon de agua with us, v hard to maintain our bodies in these working condition sometimes.... C ya tomorow
